Aluaiy Kaumakan was born in 1971 into a noble Paiwan family in Davalan (Tavaran) in Sandimen, Pingtung, and learned traditional weaving and jewelry-making techniques from an early age. Following Typhoon Morakot in 2009, her practice shifted toward soft sculpture and installations. Employing the technique of Lemikalik (twining), she combines threads, textiles, and natural materials, often working collaboratively with women from her community to weave together collective memories and cultural healing. She was awarded the First Prize in the Visual Arts category of the Pulima Art Award and has participated in numerous international biennials and triennials.
