Bonnie TCHIEN Hwen-ying
Biography
Born in Taiwan in 1950 and currently based in France, TCHIEN has pursued her artistic practice in Europe for many years, drawing on her bicultural Taiwanese and French experiences to reinterpret Taiji, martial arts, classical dance, and Peking opera using contemporary artistic vocabularies. Her work combines dance, theatre, costume, and bodily performance, and uses distinctive forms and unstable postures to explore the balance of yin and yang, as well as the relationship between the body, culture, and gender.
