Born in Taipei in 1987, Chang Wei-yuan primarily works with rock painting (mineral pigment acrylic painting). In recent years, he has drawn inspiration from traditional folk opera, religious beliefs, embroidery, and paper cutting, and has integrated concepts of spatial gathering and dispersal, presence and absence, and spirituality derived from Eastern artistic traditions. His compositions often emphasize figures with black-and-white contours, while vivid colors and rhythmic patterns create a distinctive visual style rich in imagery drawn from folk culture.
