Sou Fujimoto

Born in Hokkaido, Japan, in 1971, Sou Fujimoto graduated from the Department of Architecture at the University of Tokyo in 1994. Known for his open and transparent approach to architecture, Fujimoto explores the boundaries between nature and the built environment. In 2013, he designed the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London, which established his international reputation. In 2025, he served as the Expo Site Design Producer for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, in which role he conceived the approximately two-kilometre-long timber “Grand Ring” that connects the pavilions and embodies the concept of “Unity in Diversity.”
