Bao Mei Restaurant
About the work
The Bao Mei Restaurant was a renowned banquet establishment and Taiwanese restaurant in Tainan from its early years through the 1970s. Located at what is now the Ximen Roundabout, it was a popular gathering place for writers, artists, and other cultural figures. Many artists also frequently hired the women working at such restaurants as models in their paintings. Kuo Po-chuan’s work not only preserves the landscape around the Ximen Roundabout, but also captures the distinctive cultural flavor of Tainan.
