Min Sheng Green Park

About the work
Created in 1984, this work depicts a time when what is now the roundabout was still known as “Min Sheng Green Park.” A blurry statue of Sun Yat-sen appears in the distant left background, while the right side features luxuriant trees, human figures, and the pedestal of a flower planter, which together create a strong sense of greenery and movement in the wind. At the time, Taiwan was still under martial law. Although the artist did not explicitly articulate a political intention, the pedestal depicted in the painting, originally used for a flower planter, is now the site of the bust commemorating lawyer Tang Te-chang. The painting's political symbols spanning different historical periods lends the work a particularly evocative quality.
