Fairyland of People: Adventures in Wonderland- Abandoned amusement Park 01, 2020
01 Tainan Art Museum

The Fairyland of People series is a collaboration between Chiu Kuo-chun and embroidery artist Lin Yu-chuan, and combines traditional embroidery with contemporary photography. This work draws on images of temple processions and uses double-sided embroidery to create distinct visual experiences on the front and back of the work. Other works in the series feature images of Wuzhi Amusement Park and ruins in Xinhua—places that once held collective memories but were later abandoned amid industrial and environmental changes. By interweaving images of ruins with the iconography of deities, the series imagines these spaces through the notion of a “spiritual journey,” evoking their former prosperity and possible futures while reconsidering faith, historical transformation, and the vitality of place.
