Arus Yang Berubah, ingatan yang kabur (Shifting Currents, sunken memories), 2026
15 Absolute Space for the Arts

Beginning with the story of Mbah KH Abu Darda, a religious figure from Gedad Village in Yogyakarta, the work explores ideas of faith, surrender, and virtue within the Islamic mystical tradition of Thoriqoh Syattariyah. In 1998, the village experienced a severe drought. Guided by the spiritual teachings of his master, Mbah Abu discovered a natural spring that proved essential in sustaining the village community. His story emphasizes the values of sharing and collective stewardship of nature. From this narrative, the work extends into a reflection on Wujud—the manifestation of the sacred within the universe and all forms of life—and further explores the relationships between humans and nature, faith and local knowledge.
