Not Quite Gone, Not Quite Finished, 2025
15 Absolute Space for the Arts

Tok Yu-xiang’s art attempts to span the gap between abandonment and renewal. Through a process of “sampling” materials, he collects broken and damaged ceramics, discarded works, and used materials, and then reworks and recombines them into new objects. His work reflects on the continued life of materials after they have been discarded, while retaining traces of the time and history embedded in their making. All of his works at this exhibition have been brought together under the title Not Quite Gone, Not Quite Finished. This project explores, through sampling, layering, and reuse, the tensions between permanence and fragility, authorship and anonymity, destruction and regeneration, while pondering the possibility that what remains may be brought into new forms of existence.
Note: Selected works from Not Quite Gone, Not Quite Finished, exhibited at Absolute Space, are on view through December 27, 2026.
