About the work
Using twined and woven threads to construct organic forms reminiscent of germinating seeds and spreading roots, this work continues Aluaiy Kaumakan’s reflection on the experience of community displacement following Typhoon Morakot. Grounded in the land, nature, and the conditions of survival, it responds to the cultural and identity transformations experienced by Indigenous people as they leave their ancestral homeland and adapt to new ways of life. The layers of interwoven threads embody the craft traditions and memories of Paiwan women, while symbolizing the resilience and strength of life as it takes root anew, germinates, and continues to grow in the aftermath of trauma and displacement.
