Unseen Reminiscences
About the work
This work uses locally sourced plants from Tainan and discarded window glass as its primary materials. The artist visited alleys, parks, and other everyday spaces to collect potted plants and species linked with the city’s colonial history, while tracing memories embedded in the land. Pressed between layers of glass and fired at high temperatures, the plants are reduced to ash, while moisture, air, and minerals leave behind bubbles, cracks, and variations in color. The disappearance of the plants paradoxically accentuates their presence, and the work thus transforms Tainan’s climate, soil, water, and ecology at a particular moment into a visible and enduring form of urban memory.
Special Thanks: This work was made possible through the generous support of SPRINGPOOL GLASS, Yang Ming-Tieh Studio, PRODUCTIVITY ARCHITECT CO., LTD. and was commissioned as part of the 2026 Tainan Art Biennial.
