About the work
During the Japanese colonial period, Hsu Ping-den served as a patrol officer and later as chief of the Criminal Investigation Section in Tainan Prefecture. He published numerous police cartoons in the Taiwan Police Times, using satire, realism, and playful humor to depict the everyday experiences of the police. In this work, the protagonist, “Constable Ao,” comes under scrutiny from his superiors after going ten years without reporting a single crime. Determined to take his patrol duties seriously, he mistakenly identifies actors filming a movie as suspects caught in the act of committing assault. Through this humorous case of mistaken identity, the work pokes fun at police work and the bureaucratic system, while bringing a touch of humor to an otherwise serious police publication.
