Square

This film portrays a peaceful small town disrupted by a mysterious relic sculpture that has served as a witness to political change. When it begins singing, “I’d like to ask you a question,” residents choose to ignore it. The song gradually turns from amusement to complaints, misunderstandings, and anger, eventually triggering collective aggression. Created in collaboration with Tainan’s Fotoaura Institute of Photography and poster artist Yan Jhen-fa, the film has been re-edited as a single-channel installation in Yan’s former studio for the Tainan Biennial. A new banner painted by Yan, along with documentation of its creation, have been made part of the work.
