About the work
Responding to the theme of the 1st Tainan Art Biennial, Unfolding Circuits, this work is situated on a grassy area along the Yanshui River, in front of the Fudu “White Egret Bay—Architecture and Culture Hall” in Anping District. Drawing on the artist’s architectural practice and the characteristics of the site, the work creates a spatial installation of two concentric circuits. Sixty rectangular timber columns, each approximately 5 meters high, form inner and outer rings with radii of approximately 5 and 7 meters, creating a circular pathway between them and an enclosed, inward-looking space at the center. A 3-meter-diameter circular pool reflects the sky, trees, clouds, and night sky. Like a mirror, it evokes a dialogue with the Zen notion of one’s true nature—returning to one’s essence, original intention, and fundamental self.
