CONCRETE REFLECTIONS / TAINAN CITY, 2025
01 Tainan Art Museum · 2F Exhibition Gallery B exterior corridor

Born in Slovakia in 1993, Peter Baran creates sculptures and installations primarily using concrete. For the artist, concrete is not merely an artistic medium, but more importantly a material that carries broader meaning. As one of the world’s most widely used man-made materials and one that has profoundly influenced modernity, concrete has shaped our landscapes, cities, architecture, infrastructure, and everyday life, while also embodying the human desire to build, transform, and grow.
His work begins with the human desire to continually move toward a more ideal state, considering how the act of pursuit gradually reveals its cyclical nature through repeated movement forward. In Taiwanese Hokkien, “Se̍h” refers to circling and turning, while also suggesting return and wandering. The exhibition uses this idea to reconsider the recurring relationship between movement, land, and desire.
